Portmeirion Group is sold by a wide spectrum of high quality speciality shops and department stores in the U.K.and abroad. Due to an increase in the demand and a desire to improve customer service the company decided to expand their business premises. The major necessity arising from the expansion was to create a link over a distance of 2.2km between what was to become their new distribution centre and Portmeirion’s head office.

The major necessity arising from the expansion was a new high availability database management server at their newly built warehouse linked into their systems at head office. Another concern was uptime. With deliveries and despatches pretty much happening around the clock in real time, Zero downtime was essential. Meadowhall Shopping Centre Server and Storage Virtualisation

Meadowhall shopping centre attracts over 30 million visitors a year. It has a retail floor space of more than 131,900 m2 and is the seventh largest centre in the UK. With over 300 retail stores and supporting over 70 users across 14 servers with a vast IT infrastructure across the entire site, the IT team were keen to leverage their skills by re-investing in their IT infrastructure. The new virtualised environment provides a resilient solution enabling High Availability for their critical apps, reducing their operating and capital expenditure whilst still remaining flexible.

Bradford Grammar School Interactive Whiteboards
Bradford Grammar School is renowned nationally for both its excellent pass rates in both A-Levels and GCSEs and its wholehearted embrace of ICT, believing that it is essential to learning in the modern world. They are committed to ensuring every pupil that leaves their school is ICT literate. The school has recently built a multi-million pound Sixth Form Centre, funded primarily by Roger Evans and pupils' fund-raising.

Bradford Grammar School was founded in 1548 and granted its Charter as the Free Grammar School of King Charles II in 1662. It is now an independent school although it was a direct grant school until 1975. There are currently 1106 pupils in the School, including Senior, Sixth Form and the Junior School (Clock House).

The use of electronic whiteboards and projectors have enabled pupils to learn more effectively and for teachers to be able to deliver lessons in a more interactive and enjoyable way.  The use of interactive  whiteboards has increased enormously throughout the school and across all departments.  They have used the philosophy that boards will be installed in classrooms where there is a need but this is rapidly becoming everywhere. Rotherham Foundation Trust Patient Training Suite
Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust are leading the way in clinical excellence and efficiency according to the Healthcare Commission’s star rating system. Rotherham General Hospital has consistently achieved the maximum three stars - the highest level any Trust can achieve. To continue the theme, they have set themselves the ambitious goal of becoming paperless within 3 years. 

As a forward thinking trust and in preparation on meeting their efficiency targets, they embarked on a new EPR (Electronic Patient Records) system to be fully operational by the end of 2011, one of only a few trusts in England to adopt the scheme. This of course meant large numbers of staff (over 1500) would need to be trained on the new system in a very short space of time.

Micheldever Tyre Services Document Scanning Solution
Micheldever Tyre Services Ltd is the largest independent wholesaler, distributor and retailer of tyres in the UK. With a group turnover of nearly £300 million and selling six million tyres in 2009/10 (20 per cent of the total UK market), the company has seen amazing success over recent years and is keen to continue that growth whilst maintaining their very high levels of customer service that has made the company the success it is today. Luke Claughton, IT & Telecoms Manager and his team keep a close eye on their ICT infrastructure and are diligent about reducing operating costs whilst maintaining their impressive IT infrastructure and its responsiveness. Luke saw a key area for lowering costs and improving accuracy around their invoice processing procedures, using state of the art document imaging & management they are now achieving between 80-90% accuracy and over 300% speed improvements across their warehouses!

A rapidly expanding business needs a scalable IT infrastructure that will support the needs of the business long into its future. From the rate at which Micheldever were acquiring sites it became obvious to Luke Claughton (IT & Telecoms Manager) that warehouse systems needed to be improved, The sheer volume and processing needs had quadrupled over the last 18 months and current systems couldn’t cope. Specifically the manual process of scanning and reading the ever increasing volume of invoices needed to fulfil their growing list of deliveries.

The proposed solution provides a network of stand-alone, robust units that are situated in each of their 16 warehouses. All the documents are scanned locally but automatically stored centrally via their SQL server at HQ.
